Organized Labor Day Picnic 2019

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

Organized Labor’s Family Labor Day Picnic 2019 at Headwaters Park

Since 1888, years before Labor Day became a national holiday, workers in Northeast Indiana have been celebrating labor in our community with our community.  Organized Labor’s Family Labor Day Picnic has grown into one of the biggest labor events in the Midwest.  On behalf of organized labor’s entire picnic planning committee, we are again asking for your commitment to help continue our tradition.

We could use your commitment in one or all of these ways:

  1. People!  Your members and their families are what make the picnic and build community-wide solidarity.  We are asking you to please contact current working and unemployed members, retirees, and apprentices and ask them to turn out.  They are a powerful part of Labor’s responsibility and voice.  Talk up the Labor Day Picnic at work, at meetings and to everyone you see!
  2. Money – You bet we need it.  The projected annual picnic budget requirement continues to be around $25,000.  Please put on your agenda to ask for a picnic donation at your next monthly meeting.  Check should be made out to Northeast Indiana Building Trades with “Labor Day Picnic” in the memo line.
  3. Participation – We need help to continue to make this better, as it has become every year!  Please send your banners, people to set up tables, construct displays, put out or stack chairs, or volunteer in any other fashion at the 2019 Labor Day Picnic!  Please contact either of the acting Picnic Committee Co-Chairs:  Darryl Esterline (260) 312-0105 or Mike Lauer (260) 443-6480 if you are able to help out!

In Solidarity,

Darryl Esterline
